"Tyler Perry's House of Payne"

Created, Written and Directed by Tyler Perry

Perry's first television series is a syndicated sitcom about three generations of a working class family living under the same roof. Curtis Payne (Lavan Davis), Fire Chief of Engine Company Five, is a loving husband to Ella (Cassi Davis) and overly patient father to his freeloading son Calvin (Lance Gross). After a fire destroys the house where Curtis' nephew Clarence "CJ" Payne, Jr. (Allen Payne) lives with his wife and children, Curtis and Ella offer the family a place to stay. When unforeseen circumstances turn CJ and his family's temporary stay into a permanent one, life as Curtis knows it comes to a screeching halt.

"Tyler Perry's House of Payne" is the first originally-produced syndicated comedy to launch with a 100-episode order. The series premiered on TBS on June 6, 2007, with two episodes airing back-to-back. The record-breaking premiere averaged 5.5 million viewers. The second episode ranks as ad-supported cable's top sitcom telecast of all time among adults 18-34; adults 18-49; adults 25-54; persons 2+; and households. The telecast also ranks as TBS' top series telecast of all time among key adults demos, households and viewers. "House of Payne" went three-for-three at the 2008 NAACP Image Awards, winning the awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series (Lavan Davis) and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Lance Gross).
